Relational Leadership for the Montessori Professional

For ten years, I served on Good Shepherd Montessori’s Core Staff, consulting regularly with guides (teachers) and administration and contributing to weekly team meetings to impact relational, emotional, and community health at the school. My background in Adlerian Child Guidance was a natural fit for the Montessori Method. This event was an all staff training on how to use Montessori approaches and add some Adlerian ones when student behavior becomes a challenge.

We laughed and worked well together this afternoon, much like the years I remember so fondly when I was a more integral part of this lovely community. They are an inspiration to me and I am heartened to be able still to contribute and support their loving, skillful work.

Understanding power struggles, the power of having the same teacher multiple years in a row, leaning on the learning community, asking for help, and holding a limit without escalating conflict were some of the rich topics we covered together.
