Imagine your partner is incredibly organized. One day, you might appreciate their reliability, thoughtfulness, and ability to plan ahead. On another day, you may experience that same quality as controlling, rigid, or overly particular.
Or perhaps your partner is spontaneous. Sometimes that feels adventurous, playful, and exciting. Other times it may feel impulsive, unpredictable, or unreliable.
What changed? It wasn’t the trait itself. It was the emotional context surrounding it and the lens through which we see the trait.
When couples feel emotionally connected, they are more likely to interpret each other’s actions with generosity, curiosity, and goodwill. When couples become disconnected, even neutral behaviors can begin to feel critical, selfish, or hurtful. This is actually a dangerous tipping point toward negativity in marriages.
One of the most powerful ways to strengthen a relationship is not by changing your partner, but by changing the lens through which you experience them.
Join us for an evening of practical conversation as we explore how our perspective shapes the way we experience our relationships. Together, we’ll examine why couples who stay deeply connected often interpret each other’s qualities differently than couples who feel distant, and how growing in understanding can transform the way we experience one another.
